Journey to Aguas Calientes

Your adventure begins with an early 7:30 a.m. departure from Cusco. Enjoy a picturesque drive to Ollantaytambo, nestled in the Sacred Valley, offering stunning views. Continue your journey, ascending to the impressive Málaga Pass, standing at 4316 meters (14,160 feet) above sea level. After a brief stop to admire the panoramic views, you’ll begin a gradual descent from the high Andes into the warmer, lush jungle environment, passing through varied landscapes where majestic snow-capped peaks give way to tropical vegetation. The road is well-paved until Alfamayo, after which it becomes unpaved. We’ll proceed to the town of Santa Maria (1575 m.a.s.l.) and then reach Santa Teresa around 2:00 p.m. for a replenishing lunch. By 2:30 p.m., we’ll resume our route towards the nearby Hydroelectric Plant train station. From there, a short, scenic train ride will take you to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, arriving around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, you’ll be escorted to your designated hostel or hotel for the night.
Machu Picchu Guided Tour and Return to Cusco

Today is the day to explore the magnificent Machu Picchu! You have the option to ascend to the site by bus or by foot (note: a lantern is recommended if walking in the early morning darkness). Your guided tour of the ancient Inca Citadel begins promptly at 6:00 a.m. and will last approximately two hours, providing deep insights into its history, architecture, and mysteries. After the guided portion, you’ll have ample free time to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace, soaking in the awe-inspiring views and atmosphere, until around 12:00 p.m. This is the recommended time to begin your return descent to Aguas Calientes. Your train back to the Hydroelectric Plant will depart from Aguas Calientes at 12:00 p.m. Upon arrival at the Hydroelectric Plant, you’ll transfer to a private van for the return journey. We’ll make a one-hour stop in Santa Teresa, offering a final opportunity for a meal or a restroom break. Afterwards, we’ll continue our drive back to Cusco, following the same scenic route. Anticipate arriving back in Cusco around 9:15 p.m., concluding your memorable journey.
