Train to Aguas Calientes; Explore on your own

Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from your Cusco hotel at 6:40 AM, transferring you to the Poroy train station. Board your train at 7:40 AM for a picturesque 4-hour journey to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. Upon arrival, a representative from Hotel La Pequeña Casita (or a similar accommodation) will greet you and escort you to your room. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Consider visiting the Machu Picchu ‘Manuel Chávez Ballón’ Museum and orchid exhibition (admission $5 USD or 20 soles), which provides an insightful introduction to the ancient citadel. Alternatively, unwind at the thermal baths (admission 10 soles). In the evening, your guide will meet you at 7:00 PM at your hotel for a brief orientation about the exciting next day at Machu Picchu.
Guided Tour of Machu Picchu and Free Exploration

After an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 6:00 AM. You’ll take a comfortable bus ride up to the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a private guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours, delving into the history, architecture, and mysteries of this incredible Inca wonder. Following the guided portion, you’ll have ample free time to explore Machu Picchu independently. You might choose to walk up to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour round trip) for panoramic views, or visit the Inca Bridge (about a 40-minute walk). Please ensure you allow sufficient time to descend back to Aguas Calientes and catch your train. The bus ride from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes takes approximately 20 minutes, with buses departing when full. It’s essential to arrive at the train station at least 30 minutes before departure. Your train departs from Aguas Calientes at 4:40 PM, arriving back at Poroy train station around 8:25 PM, where we will meet you and transfer you back to your Cusco hotel.
A valid original passport and any applicable student identification card are strictly required for entry to Machu Picchu and for train travel. Please ensure these documents are current and readily accessible, as failure to present them may result in denied entry or boarding.
Due to space limitations on the train, passengers are generally allowed one small bag or backpack per person (maximum 5 kg or 11 lbs) to Aguas Calientes. Larger luggage can typically be stored securely at your hotel in Cusco, and you’ll reunite with it upon your return.
While not strictly required, travel insurance is highly recommended. It can provide essential coverage for unexpected events such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, lost luggage, or other unforeseen circumstances that might affect your travel plans.
