Frequently Asked Questions
01 What kind of weather can I expect during the trek?
The weather in the Andes can be unpredictable, with significant temperature changes throughout the day. Expect cold nights and mornings, especially at higher altitudes, with temperatures potentially dropping below freezing. Days can be sunny and warm, but rain or hail is possible at any time of year. Layers are essential, including waterproof and windproof outerwear.
02 Is travel insurance mandatory for this trek?
Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended and, in many cases, mandatory for high-altitude treks like this. Ensure your policy covers trekking activities, medical emergencies, emergency evacuation, and trip cancellations.
03 What is the best way to acclimatize to the altitude in Cusco?
To best acclimatize, we recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2-3 days before your trek begins. During this time, take it easy, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and heavy meals, and consider a light city tour instead of strenuous activity. Coca tea can also help alleviate mild altitude symptoms.
04 What should I pack in my daypack versus the duffel bag carried by porters?
Your daypack should contain essentials you need readily accessible throughout the day, such as water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, gloves, camera, rain gear, and personal medications. The duffel bag (carried by porters, up to 15 lbs / 7 kg) is for your sleeping bag, extra clothing, toiletries, and other items you won’t need until camp.
05 Are there vegetarian or special dietary options available?
Yes, we can accommodate various dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals. Please inform us of any specific dietary needs or allergies at the time of booking so our chefs can prepare accordingly.
