Your Machu Picchu Eco Journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel for a transfer to the nearby Poroy train station. From there, you’ll embark on a picturesque 3.5-hour train journey towards the mystical lost city of Machu Picchu. This train ride is renowned as one of Peru’s most beautiful, offering stunning panoramic views of the majestic Andes Mountains, gradually transitioning into a lush jungle environment as you descend to Aguas Calientes (approximately 2000m / 6560ft). Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. After enjoying a delightful lunch, the afternoon features a visit to the serene Mandor Valley for birdwatching. You’ll walk along the Vilcanota River, following the historic railroad tracks, to discover its enchanting waterfall. You’ll explore the iconic Main Plaza, the intriguing Circular Tower, the sacred Intihuatana (Sun Dial), the Royal Quarters, the impressive Temple of the Three Windows, and various houses and warehouses, all connected by a network of narrow roads and steps amidst terraced mountainsides. After the guided tour, you’ll have ample free time to wander and explore the archaeological site at your own pace. For those seeking an extra adventure, there’s an opportunity to hike approximately one hour up to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) or embark on a climb to the summit of Wayna Picchu (permits often required and sold separately), both offering unparalleled panoramic views of the entire sanctuary.
