Discovering the Inca Rope Bridge

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Cusco, traveling towards the beautiful lagoons of Yanaoca and Pomacanchi. Along the way, you’ll visit a fascinating tiny volcano and pass through the high-altitude landscapes that share its name. Our destination is Queswachaka, home to the magnificent Inca Bridge, a marvel of engineering measuring 33 meters long and 1 meter wide, crafted entirely from ‘bunch grass’ (straw from the highlands). This impressive bridge spans the mighty Apurimac River. We will set up camp near the bridge, allowing for a memorable night under the Andean stars.
Exploring Queswachaka and Ccarañahui Caves

Enjoy a leisurely morning to soak in the serene atmosphere of Queswachaka, with opportunities to explore the surroundings and interact with the local community. Later, we’ll visit the stunning Ccarañahui Caves, a geological wonder filled with thousands of years old stalactites and stalagmites. Upon exiting the caves, you’ll discover a mysterious hidden lake. After a fulfilling exploration, we will begin our private transfer back to Cusco, concluding your unique Andean journey.
Special Note: If your tour falls on the second Sunday in June, you might witness the incredible annual ceremony for renovating the Queswachaka Bridge. This three-day event culminates on the fourth day with a huge folk festival, a truly unforgettable cultural experience.
A valid passport or national ID is required for this tour. Be prepared for high altitudes and fluctuating weather conditions. Cash (Soles and USD) is essential as ATMs are not available in remote areas.
The dry season, from April to October, is generally considered the best time to visit Queswachaka. During these months, you can expect clear skies and less rain, making for better trekking conditions and clearer views. The annual bridge renovation ceremony typically takes place on the second Sunday of June, which can be an incredible cultural experience if your visit aligns.
The tour reaches altitudes of approximately 3,700 meters above sea level (12,140 feet). It’s highly recommended to spend at least one full day acclimatizing in Cusco (which is around 3,400 m.a.s.l.) before starting the tour. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and eat light meals to help prevent altitude sickness. Your guide is trained to assist if you experience symptoms.
While the tour is rated ‘Easy,’ the high altitude and camping experience might be challenging for very young children. We recommend this tour for children aged 8 and above who are accustomed to travel and can handle mild walking and cold temperatures at night. Please consult with the operator if you are traveling with children to discuss specific requirements.
You will carry your personal backpack with necessities for the 2 days, including clothing, toiletries, and snacks. Your main luggage can be stored safely at your hotel in Cusco or at the tour operator’s office. Make sure to pack only essentials for the overnight camping trip to keep your load light and manageable.
Restroom facilities will be basic during the trek and at the campsite near Queswachaka, often involving portable tents or designated natural areas. We recommend bringing your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Modern restrooms will be available at specific stops during the drive to and from Cusco.
