Frequently Asked Questions
01 What is the luggage allowance for the Inca Trail trek?
For the Inca Trail portion, you are generally allowed to carry a small daypack with your essentials. Your main luggage will be stored at your hotel in Cusco and picked up after the trek. Porters on the trail typically carry shared camping gear and food, but you may also hire a personal porter for an additional fee to carry up to a certain weight of your personal belongings.
02 Is travel insurance mandatory for this tour?
While not strictly mandatory, we highly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical emergencies, emergency evacuation (especially for trekking at altitude), and lost luggage. Please consult with your insurance provider for detailed coverage options.
03 Can children participate in this 12-day tour, especially the Inca Trail?
The Inca Trail trek is considered challenging and is generally recommended for participants aged 12 and older who are in good physical condition. Younger children might find the altitude and strenuous hiking difficult. The full 12-day itinerary may also be demanding for very young travelers. Please discuss age and fitness levels with the tour operator prior to booking for families with children.
04 What are the best times of year to undertake this Lake Titicaca and Inca Trail journey?
The dry season, from April to October, is generally considered the best time for trekking the Inca Trail and visiting Lake Titicaca, offering sunny days and clearer skies. However, nights can be very cold. The shoulder months of April, May, September, and October often provide a good balance of weather and fewer crowds. The rainy season (November to March) can make trekking conditions more challenging, though the landscape is greener.
05 What kind of vegetarian or vegan meal options are available during the trek and tour?
Vegetarian meals can be accommodated on this tour and during the Inca Trail trek. Please inform the tour operator about any dietary restrictions or preferences, including vegan or gluten-free requirements, at the time of booking. The trekking cooks are experienced in preparing diverse and nutritious meals to suit various needs.
