Amazon Jungle Expedition 3 Days

Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station, you will be transferred to the local office for final arrangements. Afterward, we will head to the port to board a boat for a one-hour journey to your jungle lodge. You’ll receive a warm welcome with a refreshing regional juice before settling into your room. After a short rest, embark on an introductory two-hour hike into the dense Amazon Rainforest Tambopata. A specialist local guide will lead you through trails, showcasing trees over 500 years old and allowing you to observe various wildlife species such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. Experience the magic of the Amazon Rainforest Tambopata within the vast Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares protected under Peruvian laws). After lunch, we’ll visit Monkey Island, located along the Madre de Dios River, where you can find different species of monkeys including brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, saddle-back tamarin, and white capuchin. Later, we return to the lodge. In the evening, we’ll embark on a thrilling caiman search along the banks of the Madre de Dios River, using flashlights to spot these nocturnal creatures. With luck, you might also see the capybara, the world’s largest rodent, weighing up to 60 kilos. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, we’ll take a short boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval. Following check-in at the control point, we’ll walk approximately 3 kilometers (2 miles) to reach Lake Sandoval, a piranha habitat and one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. After a pleasant walk, your guide will arrange a rowing boat for navigation on the lake. Here, you’ll observe a variety of bird species (such as hoatzins, cormorants, jacanas, puma herons, and eagles) and monkey species (howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, and tamarins), as well as sloths. You might even encounter the family of giant river otters (almost two meters long), an endangered species, or spot alligators over 4 meters long. We return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch. In the evening, we will embark on a night walk, appreciating the diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal animals. Dinner and rest at the lodge.

The morning in the jungle offers a different perspective of the Amazon Rainforest Tambopata from approximately 30 meters high. Our canopy bridges allow you to appreciate nature from an elevated viewpoint, providing a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River. From these platforms, you can observe various bird species, including toucans and macaws. After this final jungle experience, we will begin our journey back to Puerto Maldonado for your departure.
