Our Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick program, also known as our three-day Tambopata Clay Lick Tour, is specifically created to help you experience the best of the Tambopata National Reserve in a short amount of time. Tambopata National Park is an exceptional destination to discover unique plant and animal species while learning about the rich Amazonian culture.
Pata means “high place,” while Tambo means “building.” The name Tambopata comes from the famous Tambopata River, whose source originates near Lake Titicaca.
This vast protected area covers more than 274,690 hectares and is home to over 650 bird species and nearly 1,500 butterfly species. Tambopata is also one of the few places in the world where you can observe eight different species of macaws in their natural habitat.

We will pick you up from Puerto Maldonado Airport or the bus terminal and transfer you to our office. There, you will receive a brief introduction with all the important information about your 3-Day Tambopata Clay Lick Tour.
If you have large luggage, you may safely leave it at our office at no additional cost. We will then drive for approximately one hour to the Tambopata Boat Pier, where you will board a motorized boat bound for our jungle lodge.
Upon arrival, our staff will warmly welcome you to Tambopata. After checking into your room, you will enjoy a delicious traditional Amazonian lunch.
In the afternoon, we will hike along one of the rainforest trails to discover the incredible Tambopata Rainforest. During the walk, you will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife, including colorful birds, exotic plants, river otters, and other mammals that inhabit the riverbanks.
At the end of the day, we will return to the jungle lodge, where a freshly prepared dinner will be served before you spend a relaxing night surrounded by the sounds of the Amazon.

Early in the morning at 04:30 AM, we will leave the lodge and travel by boat for approximately one and a half hours to visit the spectacular Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, the largest Macaw Clay Lick in the world.
During the boat ride, you will have the opportunity to observe a variety of Amazonian wildlife, including Capybaras, the world’s largest rodents. With a bit of luck, you may also spot Jaguars resting along the riverbanks.
The Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick is one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles in the Amazon Rainforest. Hundreds of colorful Macaws and Parrots gather here every morning to feed on the mineral-rich clay, which helps them neutralize toxins from their diet.
After enjoying this unforgettable experience, we will return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast. You will then have free time to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of our comfortable Jungle Lodge.
Following lunch, we will continue exploring the Amazon Rainforest on a guided hike. Our local expert will introduce you to a variety of medicinal plants traditionally used by rainforest communities. Along the trail, you will also encounter numerous insects, birds, and other fascinating wildlife.
Later, we will return to the Jungle Lodge for dinner. In the evening, you will join a short night safari, where you’ll have the chance to observe nocturnal insects and animals that become active after dark.

We will begin the day early in the morning with a guided hike along one of the fascinating Tambopata rainforest trails, where you will have another opportunity to experience the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon Rainforest and observe its diverse flora and fauna.
After the hike, we will return to the Jungle Lodge to enjoy a delicious breakfast. We will then board the boat back to the Puerto Maldonado Boat Pier.
Upon arrival, our private transportation will take you to our office in the center of Puerto Maldonado, where we will arrange your transfer to the airport or bus terminal, marking the end of your unforgettable Tambopata Clay Lick Tour.

Bring lightweight clothing, a rain jacket, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, comfortable walking shoes, binoculars, a camera, a flashlight, personal medications, and a reusable water bottle. Neutral-colored clothing is recommended for better wildlife observation.
Tambopata can be visited year-round. The dry season (May to October) usually offers easier trail conditions and excellent wildlife viewing, while the rainy season (November to April) features lush vegetation and abundant bird activity.
