Choquequirao - Booking Inca Jungle

History

Choquequirao is an Inca archaeological site with similar architecture to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Choquequirao was built during the 15^th century by the legendary Inca Pachacuti. Later on, Choquequirao was used as a stronghold by the Inca resistance during the Spanish Conquest. Due to its location, it’s believed that Choquequirao served as a check point before entering the Inca city of Vilcabamba.

Geography

Choquequirao is located at an elevation of 3000 meters above sea level in the middle of the rainforest of southern Peru. It’s situated about 98 kilometers east of the city of Cusco and covers an area of around 6 km².

Activities

Tours to the Inca city of Choquequirao mainly consist of sightseeing and trekking. Due to its location, visiting Choquequirao also gives the opportunity to observe the unique flora and fauna of the Peruvian rainforest.
