Dare to explore the vibrant ridges of Pallay Punchu Mountain, a natural treasure discovered during the harsh COVID-19 lockdown. It is the third colorful mountain in Cusco, after the famous Vinicunca and the imposing Palccoyo. Although it has exploded in popularity on social media, Pallay Punchu still retains the virgin essence of an almost unexplored destination. Its majestic silhouette, with razor-sharp edges and colors that seem to burn, makes it a unique place where you will barely find crowds. If you yearn for a truly out-of-the-ordinary experience, do not miss the opportunity to dedicate at least an entire day to conquering this extraordinary spot.
To get there, you will head south of Cusco, toward an area so remote that you will feel only you and nature exist. You will experience a deep sense of privilege as you contemplate overwhelming views of the landscape, with the dazzling Langui Lagoon as a backdrop. Let yourself be hypnotized as you walk along the perfect multicolored lines of the mountain, where shades of cyan, brown, and magenta unfold. In addition, you will immerse yourself in ancient Andean traditions and learn about the fascinating geology of the place, surrounded by colossal reddish mountains and endless grasslands.
Take on this unforgettable adventure and do not forget your Andean poncho to capture the most epic photos!
This electrifying adventure kicks off around 4:00 a.m., when we pick you up directly from your hotel. We will take you on a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Cusipata so you can enjoy an energy-packed breakfast. Then, we continue by road heading to Marangani.
Right there, you will begin a challenging uphill hike for approximately one hour. You will advance along a trail surrounded by wild grasslands and overwhelming reddish lands, accompanied by native wildlife: alpacas, llamas, and even vicuñas. Upon reaching the summit of Pallay Punchu – whose name in Quechua means “woven poncho” – you will be able to climb its ridges and feel as if you are flying over the surface of an extraterrestrial planet.
This mountain is famous for its perfect lines, meticulously sculpted by nature over millions of years. You will distinguish an explosion of colors: fiery red, deep brown, vibrant yellow, intense green, wild magenta, burning ochre, among many others. As you become intoxicated by this palette of shades, you can also peer over the edge to contemplate in all its glory the stunning Langui Lagoon and its hypnotic blue waters, which stretch for more than 15 kilometers.
You will reach an extreme altitude of 4,700 m (15,419 ft), so we demand that you be well acclimatized to prevent altitude sickness from ruining your experience. Later, we will return along the same trail to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in Cusipata. Finally, we will arrive in Cusco, closing this tour that will leave you breathless.
