Inca Jungle Trail Machu Picchu Details

Day 1Cusco - Abra Malaga Pass - Santa Maria - Santa Teresa

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 0530 AM, then in our private transport, we will be driving you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and have a brief stop to have breakfast.

We will then continue driving to Abra Malaga Pass. At 4350m / 14271ft, this is the highest point of the Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu. Our guide will be giving a detailed safety briefing and will be handing you over your bike and kits.

You will then do a short test ride.

All set! We will begin with three hours of downhill biking. We will be covering 55km/ 34.18 miles. Our transport will be trailing with extra bikes and equipment to offer immediate assistance if needed.

You will be witnessing a drastic change in weather as you will be biking down from snow-capped Andean peaks to lush tropical jungle. We will have a few stops along the way.

Once in the small town of Humanmarca, we will be taking the transport to Santa Maria 1,200m/ 3937ft. We will be having lunch here.

After lunch, you will have the option to do white water rafting on the Vilcanota River. It has category III+ rapids. Our experienced crew will be giving you a detailed safety briefing. We will also give you all gears including Category V life vests.

For added safety, Peruvian law states that you must be able to swim to do river rafting. Also, we operate this during the dry season, from April to November. The water level rises during the rainy season. We will then drive you for forty minutes to Santa Teresa. We will be spending the night here.

Day 2Santa Teresa - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes

We will be waking you to a cup of freshly brewed coffee from the region or coca tea. This will be followed by a delicious breakfast. We will be leaving Lucmabamba early in the morning for Hidroelectrica.

From here you will have two options to reach Machu Picchu pueblo, Aguas Calientes.

  1. You can take a train. It will cost an additional 34 USD each
  2. You can enjoy hiking through the railway tracks and enjoying the tropical climate.

If you choose to hike, then please note that it takes three hours. You will be retracing the footsteps of Hiram Bingham III, the renowned American professor who rediscovered Machu Picchu.

Once in Aguas Calientes, we will be accommodating you in an ensuite hotel room for the night.

Aguas Calientes is named after its hot springs. You can spend the evening taking a refreshing bath in the hot springs.

Day 3Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will be taking the 25 minutes bus ride up the hill to visit Machu Picchu citadel. Our tour guide will assist you in entering the citadel.

The two hours guided tour of the Lost Inca city begins with a detailed introduction to the citadel. You will witness the golden rays of the sun shimmering on the mortar walls of the Inca citadel. You will be visiting the main square, remains of the royal quarters and Inca temples, ceremonial sites, and more.

After the tour, if you have booked to climb Huayna Picchu or a hike to Machu Picchu mountain, our guide will be directing you to the respective trailhead.

Alternatively, you can visit Sun gate or Intipunku. It is a short hike (45 minutes each way) and requires no permit. Those hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu enter the citadel through here.

After a full-day tour, you will be taking a bus back down to Aguas Calientes. You will have some free time to explore the town or have lunch. Later in the evening, you will be taking the train back to Ollantaytambo.

Our representative will meet you at the train station and will drive you back to your hotel in Cusco. We will be reaching Cusco by 09:30 PM.
