Embark on a day of extraordinary adventure with Machu Picchu Amazon Peru’s three-day Manu Expeditions. On the first day, we unveil the splendors of the Andean landscape. We transition from the towering heights to the rich Amazon basin.

At 5:30 AM, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. As we journey from the Andes to the Amazon, we’ll make two intriguing stops. The first stop is the small village of Ninamarca.

The village houses Pre-Incan funeral tombs from the Lupaca civilization. Our guide will provide a detailed tour and explain the tombs’ historical significance.

Paucartambo:
We will continue our Manu Amazon Tours to the colonial town of Paucartambo. Paucartambo is situated at 9186 feet (2800 meters) above sea level. It is known for its beautiful colonial churches.

Furthermore, it is also a repository of ancient traditions. Here, the locals converse in Quechua, preserving their rich cultural heritage.

Acjanaco Pass:
Next, we’ll drive up to Acjanaco Pass, positioned 11,646 feet (3550 meters) above sea level. This highland forest gatekeeper is our entrance to the Manu National Park. From there, we’ll journey further uphill to the viewpoint at Tres Cruces, at an altitude of 12,139 feet (3700 meters). Here, you’ll take in a breathtaking panoramic view of the vast Amazon Basin.

We will then commence our descent into the heart of Manu National Park. Our path will lead us through the elfin forest and into the cloud forest. Here, we pause for a refreshing lunch amidst the vibrant greens of the forest.

Post-lunch, we’ll walk into the woods, eyes peeled for the Andean Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird. This region is a paradise for nature lovers, boasting a wide array of bird species, from hummingbirds and trogons to quetzals.

As the day winds down, we descend to Pilcopata. Located 2296 feet (700 meters) above sea level, Pilcopata offers a warm welcome with its comfortable jungle lodge. Here we will be resting for the night.

Immerse yourself in the thrill of the Amazon on the second day of our three-day Manu Expeditions. We plunge deeper into the vibrant landscapes, promising unmatched adventure and encounters with captivating biodiversity.

Your day begins early, with a typical Amazonian breakfast at the Pilcopata Lodge. Following breakfast, we’ll drive you to the Atalaya Port, initiating our waterborne exploration of the Amazon.

Aboard a motorboat, we voyage along the Madre de Dios river, the artery of the Amazon, towards our jungle lodge. This river journey, teeming with rainforest vistas and diverse wildlife, is a joy for all nature lovers. The riverbanks bustle with a myriad of animals, offering opportunities for bird watching and photography.

Upon arrival at the jungle lodge, our crew will assist you with check-in. A typical Amazonian lunch waits to satiate your hunger and fuel you for the afternoon’s expedition.

Post-lunch, we set out to explore the trails around the lodge. During this walk, you’ll encounter a range of medicinal plants, including the potent San Pedro Cacti. As the evening unfurls, we venture to the serene Machu Wasi lake. Here, we explore the lake on a native wooden raft, catching sight of hoatzins, black caimans, and a range of reptiles.

If you’re up for it, zip-lining is an optional yet exhilarating activity available in the evening. Experience the Amazon from the treetops, a thrilling perspective of this majestic ecosystem.

As night descends, we return to the lodge for dinner. The adventure doesn’t stop there; a nocturnal tour awaits post-dinner. Experience the fascinating world of the Amazon after dark, where you’ll spot nocturnal creatures and insects.

Day 3Pilcopata Lodge - Atalaya Port - Cusco City

Discover the awe-inspiring wildlife of the Amazon on the final day of our three-day Manu Expeditions. This day is dedicated to a unique phenomenon of nature – the parrot’s clay lick, a spectacle that will leave you spellbound.

We set off at daybreak, embarking on a brief 10-minute journey to the clay lick site. In Manu National Park, this clay lick is a spectacle not to be missed. Watch in wonder as over a hundred vibrantly colored parrots and macaws descend to feast on the mineral-rich clay.

The clay here is laced with unique mineral salts. These elements aid the birds in purging toxins from their bodies. This natural spectacle is a testament to the harmony of the ecosystem, and a visual treat you won’t soon forget.

Following this early morning extravaganza, we’ll return to the lodge for a nourishing breakfast. Refreshed and recharged, we then sail back along the Manu River to Atalaya Port. Here, our driver will be waiting to escort us back to Cusco in our comfortable van.
