Tour Information
Tour Cusco Manu: An opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the Tropical Andes

All Manu National Park Tours from Cusco provide a unique experience to explore the dense jungles of southern Perú. The Cusco Manu National Park is an internationally famous refuge of biodiversity located in Southwestern Peru, between the Tropical Andes and the Amazon Basin. This reserved zone is a massive watershed that has remained isolated for millennia due to the difficulty of accessing it.

However, the Manu National Park has a long history of human occupation. In the area, Inca and Pre-Inca ruins and petroglyphs have been discovered. Also, according to the Paititi legend the “Lost City of the Incas” is hidden within Manu National Park. Today, the only permanent residents of the area are indigenous people who live a traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyle or live in semi-nomadic settlements.

The diversity of ecological variables found in the biosphere reserve of Manu National Park, such as altitude, temperature, and soils, has resulted in a diverse range of flora and fauna. Scientists estimate that the region contains between 2000 and 5000 plant species. Furthermore, Manu National Park is home to a variety of animal species, including the Cock of the Rocks, Giant Otter, Jaguar, Puma, and the mysterious Andean Mountain Cat.

Visiting Manu National Park differs from a typical tour in Cusco. Most tours are oriented to visit cultural zones such as the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. On the other hand, taking a tour to the Manu National Park is perfect for nature lovers. This reserved zone located in the Amazon Rainforest provides a unique opportunity to enjoy one of the last pristine areas of South America.

As an authorized tour operator, we offer jungle trips and tours from Cusco to the Manu National Park. Join us in our 4 days tour and explore the wonders of the Amazon Rainforest of Madre de Dios!

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Bosque Nublado de San Pedro (Cloud Forest) – Pilcopata

We will start our journey early in the morning. We will drive you from your hotel in Cusco to the town of Paucartambo. We’ll stop along the way to see the Chullpas of Ninamarca, which are pre-Inca burial towers. Following that, we will descend from 3000 meters above sea level to the San Pedro Cloud Forest, a unique ecosystem at the high andean terrain. This forest is home to a variety of unique plant species, including orchids, heliconias, and ferns. We will also have the opportunity to see the Manu’s native birds, such as the Andean Cock of the Rocks and the Horned Screamer. At the end of our first day, we’ll go to our Pilcopata lodge for dinner and take a rest.

Day 2Pilcopata – Atalaya - Manu

After having breakfast, we’ll drive to a nearby bird watching spot. During the trek we’ll be able to visit some of the coca, coffee and banana plantations of the region. After a short trip, we’ll arrive at the dock of Atalaya, the entry point to the Manu National Park. From there, we’ll navigate for about 40 minutes to our lodge. After leaving our bags there, we’ll explore the nearby jungle. On our second day, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in some optional activities, such as zip lining.

Day 3Macaw Clay Lick - Cocha Machuwasi

On our third day, we’ll leave our lodge early in the morning to visit a nearby Macaw clay lick, also known as Collpa. This location is ideal for bird watching due to the large number of macaws and parrots that congregate there. According to some theories, these birds visit the clay lick to feed on minerals that are essential for their health.

Following that, we’ll go to the Cocha Machuwasi, a small lake on the right bank of the Alto Madre de Dios River. This lake will allow us to appreciate the flora and fauna of the Manu National Park. Numerous birds, monkeys and small reptiles can be seen resting on the shores of the lake and the surrounding areas.

Even though we offer a day Manu tour, it is optional to take a short night walk accompanied by our staff.

Day 4Atalaya – Cusco

On our last day we’ll return to Cusco. After having breakfast, we’ll leave our accommodation and head back to the dock of Atalaya. After passing through the cloud forest that we saw on the first day, we’ll finally arrive at Cusco.
