Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the luggage allowance on the train to Aguas Calientes?

Due to space limitations on the train, passengers are generally allowed one small backpack or carry-on bag (maximum 5 kg or 11 lbs). Your main luggage can be stored securely at your hotel in Cusco.

02 Is altitude sickness a concern for this tour?

While Machu Picchu itself is at a lower altitude than Cusco, the tour starts and ends in Cusco (approx. 3,400 m / 11,150 ft). We highly recommend arriving in Cusco at least 1-2 days prior to your tour to acclimatize and minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

03 What is the best time of year to visit Machu Picchu?

The dry season, from April to October, is generally considered the best time to visit Machu Picchu, offering clearer skies and less rain. However, this is also peak season, so expect more crowds. The shoulder months (April, May, September, October) can offer a good balance of weather and fewer visitors.

04 Are there restrooms available at Machu Picchu?

There are restrooms located just outside the main entrance of Machu Picchu before you enter the citadel. Once inside, there are no facilities, so it’s advisable to use them before beginning your exploration.

05 Is this tour suitable for children or people with mobility issues?

This tour involves significant walking, climbing stairs at Machu Picchu, and a strenuous hike up Wayna Picchu Mountain. It is generally not recommended for very young children or individuals with severe mobility issues. A good level of physical fitness is required, especially for the Wayna Picchu climb.
