Vinicunca became a popular destination since the year 2016. Due to the melting of the Andean glaciers, the mountain became visible. This event made its unusual colors visible to the public, attracting hundreds of visitors to the area.
Vinicunca is located about 100 km south of the city of Cusco. It has an altitude of 5200 meters above sea level. The climate is typical of the Andean mountains. It’s cold and dry.
Visitors can participate in trekking tours to the Vinicunca Mountain. Most of the tours last one day. However, longer treks including the Ausangate mountain are available.
